For Matthew Williams, education became a way to start building a future beyond incarceration.

Through TMCC’s Justice Involved Education program and support from the Nevada Department of Corrections, Matthew continued his education while incarcerated and discovered confidence, purpose and long-term goals along the way.

Last month, he graduated summa cum laude with a 4.0 GPA and an associate degree in general education. Now, he plans to continue studying business management and HVAC with the goal of one day owning his own HVAC company.

“The computer lab gave me a place where I could actually focus on my future instead of just sitting around waiting,” he said.

Matthew’s story is a reminder that growth and opportunity can begin anywhere, and that education can help create momentum for what comes next.
